Founded in 2002 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3), CCSS\u00a0 traces its roots back to programs initiated within the Cass Community United Methodist Church. Located in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, CCSS serves as a vital lifeline for the community, offering a diverse array of essential services.<\/p>\n

Reverent Faith Fowler (pictured on the right) became Executive Director in 2002, significantly expanding the organization’s services, including housing, job training, and initiatives like Tiny Homes Detroit. Under her leadership, the CCSS became a major force in fighting poverty and homelessness in Detroit.<\/p>\n

The Tiny Homes experience provides a way to make that dream of home ownership a reality for low-income individuals.<\/p>\n

In 2016, Cass Community Social Services began a grand experiment to build Tiny Homes in Detroit. With 25 225-500 sf houses already completed, the goal is to build 20 additional homes. Influencers and organizations from around the country have come to Cass to understand the Tiny Homes program, with hopes of replicating it in their own communities.<\/p>\n

Annually, they prepare and serve an impressive 700,000 meals, ensuring no one goes hungry. Currently, 300 homeless individuals find refuge in CCSS shelters or permanent supportive housing programs, including tiny homes.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the agency runs two free medical clinics weekly and a day program catering to 125 adults with developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n
